Contact with your child’s teacher
If you collect your child from school each day you have a useful opportunity to talk to your child’s teacher on a regular basis. If not, you can use their reading journal to pass information between home and school. Ask for an appointment with the head teacher o r class teacher if you want to discuss something in detail, as the beginning and end of the school day can be very hectic.
Parents evenings
Twice a year you are invited to attend parent’s evenings, when the class teacher will discuss in detail your child’s attainment and progress as well as personal targets. These take place in the autumn term (target setting) and the spring term (target reviews). There is usually one evening put aside for these-although alternative times are always available -please ask. We try to make interpreters available where required.
Annual reports
In the summer term you will receive an annual report on your child, covering all aspects of the curriculum as well as their personal and social development.
EYU Scrapbook
When your child leaves the EYU they will be presented with a ‘scrapbook’ containing photographs, pieces of work and observations taken during their first years at school. Children also compile their own scrapbook in year six – just before they leave for secondary school – with examples of work from throughout their school career.
Special educational needs
If your child has special educational needs you will be invited to reviews to discuss your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Weekly assembly and notices
Every week we hold a ‘sharing’ assembly in which children have an opportunity to share a special piece of work or celebrate a personal achievement; you are welcome to attend this and we will send you an invitation if your child is sharing. Regular (monthly) newsletters are sent out detailing information about events and activities in school. There is also a parent’s notice board in the playground. Please ask your children for notes and newsletters sent home about events, outings or school information (or check in your child’s book bag!).
Concerns and comments
If you have any concerns about your child’s education please let us know and we will try to address your worries, however small. We find that it is often easier to deal with small issues quickly, rather than let them escalate. We are always glad of your ideas and comments to improve the school-so let us know through your child’s teacher or the office. If you feel that the school has not dealt with your concern properly please tell the head teacher. If you are still dissatisfied you can make a formal complaint to the Chair of governors through the school office. If you still feel you have not received help or, if you have a complaint about the curriculum, write to:
The Chief Education Officer, Mulberry Place, Clove Crescent, London E14
